You may remember I ranted about the No 10 petitions site a while ago. Matthew has just directed me to an article in the New Statesman, in which Becky Hogge discusses the impact of petitions, versus an actual letter to an MP.
But she does support petitions too at end of article... "Some might argue that neither my co-signatories nor our 1.8 million driver chums have made any contribution to democracy with our petitions. But I disagree. Whether the government likes it or not, our leaders are no longer broadcasting their policies to a silent electorate. Like the media before them, they will have to start getting used to the audience talking back."
