All is not lost...

I've found my phone charger - hoorah! It's been dead since Monday, so I'm letting it charge now. Haven't done any more unpacking - found it more through an 'ooh, I bet it's in that box' moment.

Still at a loss to find the source of the smell in the flat though. It smells like paint, and the landlord did do some painting, but that was a month ago. I feel the smell is emanating from the kitchen - you get a strong whiff of it when you walk all the way in, but I still can't pin it down. It could be the new hob I guess.

We've nearly finished moving out of Matthew's current flat, just the last few bits that we'll carry round later. Sadly I can't take a photo of the beautiful state of some of our rooms to counteract the spurious comment on the post below ;) as we've filled them again with Matthew's flatmate's bed, as he doesn't have anywhere to store it for the weekend.

And we are losing our internet access from today. We planned to get Telewest phone/TV/broadband, but apparently because the people who were last in our flat still have an account with them we can't have one until they close theirs. Riiiight. So we'll be internet, phone and TV-less from tomorrow until who-knows-when. As long as we get it all sorted for Lost :-/

An update since we moved

Well, we did it - we moved!

I had my last day at work in Manchester on Friday :( Then I went straight to the train station & down to my new town of Cheltenham.

On Saturday Matthew & I drove up from Cheltenham to Manchester in our hired Ford Transit:

Yeah. It looked mightily small to me too.

We set off at 10:30am and got to Matthew's parents' house just after 1pm. We loaded up our new sofabed (basically a little metal futon), had some lunch and went to my parents. It took about 2.5 hours to load the van at my house - it was completely jam-packed and I've still left loads behind :-/ I really should've marked the boxes 'essential' and 'non-essential' - I have a feeling I've left my passport and phone charger among other things. But here we go - as much as we could fit!

Ooh look - trousers!

Anyway, we got back to Cheltenham for 9pm, and then had to unload. Luckily we're living at the end of a very quiet dead-end, so we could leave the van in the middle of the road at the point closest to our door. At the end part of the road is a little car park - presumably for the residents. However, in the time it took us to unload no less than about 6 cars pulled into the road, saw the van, turned round & left! Very odd behaviour - we're wondering whether people use the car park as somewhere to park when they go out.

We finally finished unloading at 10:40pm - now Matthew understands why I insisted we only have a maximum of 1 flight of stairs to the flat! The original plan was to put the furniture in vaguely the right rooms, but that just didn't happen ;)

So here is the bedroom:

The living room:

And the study:

If it doesn't look that full ( ;) ) remember we hadn't moved Matthew's stuff at this point, it's just mine - all mine. We gave ourselves 5 minutes to collapse on the settee and then toddled off to Matthew's current flat to get some rest!

On the Sunday we were moving Matthew's things from his current flat to or new one. We decided to take the recycling to Tesco & do a load of 'heavy food' shopping given that we had the van. We dropped that off at the new flat, and realised that we really needed to make some space in it for all Matthew's things.

Matthew's stuff took two van trips - mainly because he has a lot of furniture, and we didn't flat pack it. Again, we finally finished after 10pm.

I now have constellations of bruises on my legs - at one point I had 16 on my left knee alone, but then accidently bashed a bookcase and ended up with mainly one large one.

On Monday Matthew was at work, and I had to go to university in the afternoon. However, I spent the morning rearranging furniture, and managed to make the living room look like a living room. Now we had one room we could use properly.

In the afternoon I went to get my university ID card. After queueing for 45 minutes I ended up with a rather startled looking photo, but it's not too bad. I then sat on a train in University station for over an hour before it was announced that we should all get on a bus - so not the most auspicious start.

Tuesday wasn't so bad though. We've started unpacking our clothes - yikes! We've filled 3 chest of drawers and are still only half way done! Then I went back to the university for my Postgraduate Induction. Everyone was just as scared as me, and I was surprised at how old everyone was - most people were my age or older, there didn't appear to be many 21 year olds straight from an undergraduate degree.

We now need to continue unpacking our flat and clean Matthew's current one. At the moment I've created a Chinese Laundry in Matthew's room. We won't have washing or drying facilities in our new flat for the time being, and I have huge amounts of stuff that needs washing. Hopefully it'll all be dry by tomorrow, and we should be able to clean around it.

Jolly good fun though!

And that brings me up to now!

Start here and Welcome!

I thought the easiest/laziest thing to do to keep everyone informed about my move to Cheltenham'n'stuff would be to stick it all on a webpage. You can comment on things as well, and you shouldn't need to log in - just remember this is all public! Click on the word 'comments' beneath the post to leave one - you can then select 'other' and leave your name, rather than logging in. Otherwise send me an email.

And the title? Well, I'm not putting my new address on the internet, but it's a good clue ;)
