We have lift off!

Not really. But we do have bedroom curtains now...

We started putting up the curtain rail either last week or the week before, but didn't use the hammer action on the drill, so we couldn't get the holes deep enough. Today we tried the hammer action and it worked just fine :) It was rather noisy though. Thinking about it now, we do have earplugs, but instead I offered Matthew these: ;)

How to use this site

It has been brought to my attention that, shock horror, some people have not been eagerly refreshing this site on a daily - nay, hourly! - basis, awaiting the next golden nugget that should pour from my fingers (or at least a funny story about eating a whole ball of string accidentally or something).

All I can say is - shame on you!

And a handy hint for anyone not used to the blogger.com set-up. Posts are arranged in chronological order, with the newest at the top. This is great if you are one of the devoted ones, but irritating if you need to read a heap of new posts all at once (or, I don't know, re-read the old ones just to refresh your memory ;) ). The best thing to do is go down to the bottom of the page, and then start scrolling up.

And so that you don't miss a thing, there are 'archive' links on the right hand navigation bar. The main page of this blog only holds a certain number of posts, then the older ones get bumped onto the archive pages. The 'previous posts' links above the archive links don't actually list all previous posts - you have to go through the archives pages for the older ones. Hey - I wouldn't want you to miss the pin story now would I?

If you wish to post a comment click the link at the bottom of the post. You don't need a blogger account, but it's nice to leave a name rather than 'anonymous' :)

Of course, monetary donations can be sent via cheque to the usual address ;)

Have a very merry tasteful Yule...

But not in our flat - tack rules!

Unfortunately the flash has cancelled out the fairy lights - the peace lily has blue lights, the tree has white ones, and the aloe vera has pink ones.

I repotted the aloe and all the roots fell off :( so I'm not actually sure whether it will survive or not :( Plant death guilt :( Poor aloe vera...

Another thing I thought I'd killed was all the little birds which had come to our bird feeder. We hadn't seen any for days, and I had been putting vanilla coated pumpkin seeds out, which may or may not be suitable for birds :-/ But I restocked the feeder with actual proper bird seed, and today a little coal tit made multiple trips!

And finally we started to sort out the curtains in our bedroom. We weren't actually that bothered about curtains - the dawn light wasn't waking us up, and we had the cardboard from the bed propped against the window so we could get changed without scaring the neighbours, but we realised we needed curtains for some insulation - it's cold!.

So three weeks ago Matthew picked up some curtains from his mum; last week we bought curtains and a drill'n'stuff (Wilko's finest) and today we... put up the net curtain. Go us. It was a little awkward, as the window frames are plastic and the walls are crappy, but in the end I could screw it in after making a starter hole with a nail. And it hasn't fallen down yet!

It actually makes the room look a lot bigger too (and feel warmer). Maybe tomorrow we'll do the actual curtains!
